Around 1919 Naval Station Tutuila Bakeshop as it looks today
Old Bake Shop
Immediately to the west of the Jail and also facing the parade ground is the old Bake Shop (Navy Bldg. No. 45). As early as 1913 the commandant called for the construction of a new bakery, saying that the existing bakery was unsanitary and a disgrace to the station. But not until 1919 did the Navy construct this small, one-story building. The walls are constructed with the same imitation rough-cut stone concrete blocks as with other naval buildings from this period. The original building measured about forty feet square. Today it houses Western Union and Samoa Photo Express. This building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Tutuila Naval Station Historic District.
